Case study · Anstey Bond
Three cities, 484 registered auditors
Anstey Bond wanted an audit firm in Manchester, one in the Midlands and one south of London. Three mandates, one universe, and a hard requirement that every target is a registered auditor.
A different universe entirely
When the mandate needs a registered auditor, the population is not every accountancy firm in the city. It is the Register of Statutory Auditors, and it is a much shorter, much better list — if you can get at it by location and then join it to real financials.
- Firms pulled from the audit register by postcode area, city by city
- Matched to Companies House for officers, ages and filed accounts
- Recognised supervisory body recorded per firm — ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS
- Main office flagged, so a branch is never mistaken for the firm
- Every one of the 484 firms on their boards is audit registered
The scoring bug worth telling you about
On the first run, almost no audit-register firm reached tier A. The scoring treated an unknown headcount as a headcount of zero, and firms harvested from the register arrive without one until their accounts are parsed. Every one of them was being marked down for a fact we had simply not looked up yet.
Fixed, the Midlands mandate went from nothing at tier A to a real shortlist. It is in this case study because it is the kind of thing that quietly wrecks a target list, and the only reason it was caught is that every score carries its own breakdown — the number was wrong, and the reason it was wrong was on the screen.
Where it stands
The only mandate with outreach actually running. Everything here has happened.
484 registered auditors scored
Across three cities, each against its own mandate, with the reason for every exclusion recorded on the firm.

Nothing completed yet
First contact was recent. No offer, no diligence, no completion — and we are not going to imply otherwise while the pipeline is this young.
